Election topics

A vibrant and prosperous city – through entrepreneurship and seamless services

Businesses create jobs and strengthen the local economy, which also supports the funding of welfare services. More flexible procurement is needed so that local businesses can also participate in social services.

Fair procurement – prioritising local businesses and services

Procurement in the city and the wellbeing service county must take account of local suppliers to ensure that tax revenue stays in the area and supports both the economy and services.

Services and workplaces on the same side - a partnership between businesses and the wellbeing service county

Public and private operators can work together to provide better and more efficient services for residents, particularly in the social and health sectors.

why are these topic important to me?

I am running as a candidate because I want a city and a welfare area where entrepreneurship is seen as an asset and services run smoothly. As an entrepreneur, I know how vitality is created: through jobs, growth and local solutions. When businesses thrive, tax revenues are generated to fund services that are important to all of us – health, education and everyday life.

I want to promote fair procurement that considers local businesses and services by disaggregating procurement so that businesses of all sizes have the opportunity to pitch for contracts. Too often, public procurement goes to big companies from elsewhere, even when we have the expertise in our own city. When tax revenue stays in the region, it supports local jobs and services.

I also believe that the public and private sectors can work together to provide better and more efficient services. It doesn't matter who provides the service, as long as it works well and is accessible to residents. I want decision-making to support smooth cooperation and the development of services.

why should you vote for me?

I understand entrepreneurship and the importance of vitality. As an entrepreneur, I know what it takes to create jobs and growth. I want to see the city and businesses working together, and I don't want unnecessary bureaucracy to complicate businesses.

I stand for fair procurement. Local businesses must have access to competitive procurement so that the city's money stays to support our region.

I want efficient and effective services for residents. Decisions made by the city and the welfare district should be about access and quality – not about who provides them.

For me, politics is not just talk - I want to work to make our city and welfare area function more smoothly. If these things are important to you too, I'm your candidate!

Hi, nice to meet you! I'm Satu Wivolin – entrepreneur and mentor.

I am a research entrepreneur (15 years), mentor, business mentor and chairman of the board of Vaasa Entrepreneurs. I study pedagogy and am currently doing an internship as part of my studies at the City of Vaasa Integration Services in the International House project. In between work and studies, I am involved in various positions of trust, as I want to be involved in developing entrepreneurship and skills both locally and nationally.

I have been on the Finnish Entrepreneurs' Skills Committee for seven years and moved to the Organising Committee at the beginning of 2024. Developing skills is a matter close to my heart, which is why I am also involved in the Finnish National Board of Education's Working Life Committee. I also contribute to the boards of Coastal Ostrobothnian Entrepreneurs, Vasek and Vaasa University Association.

Studies and continuous learning have accompanied me throughout my entrepreneurial journey. After graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Marketing), I have completed the Professional Degree in Entrepreneurship, the Specialist Qualification in Management and the HHJ (Approved Board Member) qualification. I have been studying education alongside my work, and now it is time to finish my degree.

To balance work, you need something else entirely. During the corona pandemic, I chuckled at the knitting trend and thought that I, for one, would never start knitting socks – after all, I've never been a fan of handicrafts. Well, then I knitted my first sock and got hooked. Now it's wool socks and knitted sweaters, and next up is Icelandic sweaters. Handicrafts also led me to woodworking, and for a few years now I've been building furniture and birdhouses, among other things.

Writing has been close to my heart since childhood. I have taken Alma's Creative Writing courses and have written short stories, poems – and a couple of book projects are waiting in my desk drawer for the right moment. Everyday life is full and sometimes hectic, but in the evenings I relax with my knitting needles and an audio book or a movie.
